A burn, a tissue injury, often due to a more or less long contact with a heat source. The burn has different degrees of severity:
1st degree burn: sunburn, household burn, rapid contact with a flame. The skin is intact but red and painful, there are no blisters or tearing. Recovery occurs spontaneously after 5 to 6 days.
Superficial 2nd degree burn: a blister appears filled with a transparent liquid. The pain is strong and the dermis red. Recovery occurs spontaneously after 10 days.
Deep 2nd degree burn: results from prolonged contact with a heat source (water, boiling oil, etc.). The blisters are usually pierced. Under these blisters, the dermis is discoluored, the pain is low. The epidermis is destroyed and requires medical care.
3rd degree burn: the skin is cardboard, white or brownish, insensitive, it is totally destroyed and requires hospital care. Do not use URGO Wound Wound Dressings Honey in this case.

How should you use this product?
In the case of a burn: hold the wound under cold (but not icy) water for 15 minutes beforehand to limit the extent of the burn. Do not pierce any blister that forms.
In all cases:
1. Wash your hands with soap and water
2. Clean the wound with water or saline solution. Disinfect the wound and surrounding skin with an alcohol-free antiseptic solution. In the case of a burn, never use coloured antiseptics such as eosin. Dry thoroughly with a sterile dressing. Rinse with water or saline solution.
3. Using a dressing, dry the wound and its surrounding skin thoroughly. Stop any bleeding by applying compression.
4. Open the pouch and remove the dressing. Remove the protective tabs and apply the dressing to the wound. If applied over a joint or moving area, water-resistance may be reduced.
5. Monitor the wound and surrounding skin regularly.
6. The dressing should not remain in place for more than 5 days and must be removed if it has not detached on its own. Replace the dressing following the instructions for use.
7. To remove the dressing, gently pull one corner parallel to the skin. Stretch and release successively until it detaches. Moisten the skin if needed.

What precautions should you take when using this product?
- For use on localized wounds no larger than the dressing pad. If you do not see any improvement in healing after 6 days, consult your doctor. This product contains honey - do not use if you are allergic to honey.
- For any burn in a child, seek advice from your pharmacist.
- If there are clinical signs of local infection (redness spreading to undamaged skin, pain, purulent exudate, etc.), foreign bodies in the wound, significant bleeding, a bite, or a puncture from a sharp and/or contaminated object, consult your pharmacist or doctor.
- URGO honey healing plaster should be used immediately after opening - store away from light.
- In children, remove the plaster gently and carefully.

What is an exuding wound?
A wound is described as exuding when it oozes after the bleeding has stopped. Exudate is clear, transparent or slightly coloured, fluid and watery. The body produces it naturally from plasma in response to tissue damage - it forms part of the normal healing process. For optimal healing, the wound should be moist, but not overly so. If exudate become viscous, cloudy or malodourous, this may indicate infection, in that case: do not use URGO Wound Dressings Honey and consult your doctor.
